The Specialty Polymers team in Germany (IVPG), in collaboration with Indorama Ventures Investments & Holdings (IVIH), has developed a bottle-grade polymer containing 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content using a BHET monomer derived from glycolysis. This marks the first time that such a resin has been produced on a continuous CP line within the company. The BHET was sourced from colored bottle flakes processed at recycling plants in France and Poland, with 40% of the monomer input coming from enhanced recycling. The polymer retains optical and physical properties comparable to virgin PET, making it suitable for refillable bottles, cosmetics, mobility, and construction applications. BHET suppliers are currently working to improve flowability and obtain certifications for food safety and GHG reduction through life cycle assessments (LCAs). Once this process is complete, the Gersthofen site will begin full-scale production.
